Explore this Swedish historic site in northern Delaware.
The Hendrickson House Museum is located between the Brandywine Creek and Christina River in Wilmington, Delaware. Catherine Hendrickson built this historic home; however, this is not the home's original location. It was built using stones from the local quarry just west of Philadelphia and has been in Wilmington since the late 1950s. After receiving funds to preserve this piece of history, they rebuilt the house brick by brick. Today, the home is a museum and also features a library and archives dating back to the colonial period. Swedish immigrants settled in the area back in the 1600s, and guests are welcome to visit the Old Swedes Church after touring the Hendrickson house.
Guided tours are available at the top of the hour from 11 am to 3 pm. You can also take a self-guided tour if you'd prefer. Admission rates are $10 per adult, $5 for children (6-15), and free for anyone up to five years old. This place has a rich history and is an excellent site to visit in Wilmington. If you enjoy learning about early American history, add the Hendrickson house to your Delaware itinerary.
