Visit this historic underground town running businesses such as a saloon, laundromat, and bakery.
After a devastating fire destroyed the town of Havre, Montana, in 1904, its residents waited for their town to be rebuilt, eventually taking their businesses underground. An old western saloon is still serving customers. Other businesses you can find include a laundromat, a bordello, an opium den, and Gourley Brothers' Bakery. Some people refer to it Havre as an underground mall.
There is also a Railroad Museum with interactive models and information about the devastating fire. Many of the tunnels were used as Chinese railroad workers traveled to safe houses. Reservations are required to take a guided tour of this place. It is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. In the winter, tours are available Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. The ticket office is located at 120 3rd Avenue, close to Norman’s Ranch Wear.
