View the Great Smoky Mountains from a historic train.
The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad is located in southwestern North Carolina in Bryson City. This family-friendly attraction has a steam-powered and diesel-powered train. Guests can book a couple of different excursions, including the Nantahala Gorge and Tuckasegee River. The Nantahala Gorge ride is 4.5 hours long (round trip), including a one-hour layover where you can explore the Gorge. If you need a shorter ride, the Tuckasegee River excursion is four hours long (round trip), and it passes by the movie set of The Fugitive and stops in Dillsboro before heading back. They also have special seasonal tours for visitors in the spring and fall.
You can choose either first-class dining or a regular box lunch during your train ride. The price of your meal is included with first-class and premium tickets. The premium open-air gondola seating offers the best photo opportunities. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your train departure time. The train runs on a tight schedule, and they cannot wait for late passengers to arrive. If you're looking for a fun place on the North Carolina side of the Great Smoky Mountains, don't hesitate to book a ride on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad.
