Home of the original hot dog on a stick, have a bite to eat at this local restaurant.
The inventor of the corn dog was a veteran of the US Air Force. He collaborated with a student and the student’s father, who worked at a bakery to create the perfect batter recipe. Five years after the idea was introduced, Ed Waldmire Jr served the first “cozy dog” at the Amarillo Airfield. They served corn dogs at multiple locations, including the Lake Springfield Beach House the Illinois State Fair.
This iconic Drive-In location was opened in 1949, and they use the exact same batter recipe to this day. The menu offers other American fast food classics like burgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, onion rings, and ice cream. If you stop by for breakfast, they also serve items such as french toast, pancakes, and breakfast sandwiches. They are open Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm. On Sundays and most major holidays, they are closed. This family-owned business is welcoming and worth the visit.
