Enjoy this recreational area in Evanston, Wyoming.
The Bear River State Park was first established in 1991. It was called the "Bear River" by trappers due to the number of bears that lived by the river. Native Americans called the river the "Quee-ya-pay" after the tobacco root, which often grew along the river banks. The park encompasses 324 acres of land and features 1.2-miles of paved trails and over 3-miles of gravel trails. Paved trails have an arched footbridge that crosses the Bear River, providing access to the gravel trails.
Mountain biking and wildlife observation are the most common outdoor activities at Bear River State Park. Visitors to the park can also enjoy picnicking, hiking, cross-country skiing, rollerblading, fishing, and snowshoeing. Keep your eyes peeled for the bison herd and various elk that may be roaming the area. The Bear River State Park Visitor Center features wildlife displays, interpretive programs, and tourism information. The Bear River State Park is for day use only; no overnight camping is allowed. If you need a scenic place to pass the time in Evanston, head to this state park.
