Learn about Alaskan natives’ culture at this heritage center.
You do not want to miss this interactive museum in Anchorage, Alaska. The Alaska Native Heritage Center provides family-friendly fun for all ages. This center was created when the Alaska Federation of Natives unanimously voted in 1987 to build a cultural center. It took years to raise money for the center, but it was finally built and in operation in the early summer of 1999. The center honors and provides education regarding the heritage of 11 major cultural groups found in Alaska. The center encompasses 26 acres of gorgeous forest, and there is an expansive indoor section with interactive demonstrations and activities for the entire family.
At the Alaskan Native Heritage Center, you will come to know Alaskan natives as you watch presentations given throughout the day by members of various tribes. You can watch them demonstrate their native dances, music, games, and learn how all of those contribute to their culture today. Witness their ancient culture by taking a stroll through six different tribes’ life-size villages. There is no better place in Alaska to educate yourself on all of the remarkable tribes and their various traditions and customs.
