This nautical museum depicts the role that watermen have played in the Chesapeake Bay region and how they have helped shape our nation.
The Watermen’s Museum can be found in the historic town of Yorktown, Virginia. The museum is within walking distance from many of the most popular spots in Yorktown, including the Riverwalk where there are plenty of dining options and local shops to peruse. The Watermen’s Museum was established with the aim to educate the public about the significant impact that Chesapeake Bay Watermen have had on our country over the course of history. There is a variety of exhibits here that demonstrate what life was like for those that worked or fought out on the water.
The Watermen’s Museum offers a number of different programs and events, volunteer opportunities, and it is a popular spot for schools to come for field trips. There are summer programs that dive into topics such as archaeology and environmental exploration and events that demonstrate things like glass blowing and pottery. There is a gift shop available at the museum where visitors can pick up one-of-a-kind souvenirs, too. The museum is only open from April until late December. Admission into the museum is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, and free for those under 6, members of the military, museum members, first responders, and teachers.
