Discover the prehistoric world and millions of years of history.
The Utah Field House of Natural History is located in downtown Vernal, near Highway 191. This site was created and inspired by A.G. Nord, and his efforts allowed this historic site to maintain and keep the geological, paleontological, archaeological, and biological specimens within the Uinta Basin. The Historic State Park opened in 1959 and geological findings are properly maintained and protected. This site exposes 3 billion years of Earth's history, with original fossils located in the field that have been carefully extracted and studied. The on-site museum displays multiple fossils that are over 600 million years old. Fossil specimens range from simple plants to advanced animals.
This site features a visitor center located inside of the museum and the museum offers a number of hands-on and interactive exhibits. Exhibits include the Rotunda Area, the Search and Stone video film, Morris Formation Dig Site and Fossil Lab, Jurassic Hall, Eocene Gallery, Rock, and Mineral room. The incredible Dinosaur Garden contains 17 full-sized beautiful replications of dinosaurs. Museum hours are 9 am to 7 pm daily during the summer, and 9 am to 5 pm during the fall. If you love dinosaurs, head to eastern Utah and see this Natural History State Park.
