Visit America's largest underground lake inside these magnificent caves.
The Lost Sea Adventure is a family-friendly tourist attraction in Tennessee. You can either purchase tickets online or when you arrive. Tickets are $20.95 per adult and $11.95 for children. Tours begin on the hour, and each guided tour lasts about 60 minutes. This unique adventure is open daily from 9 am to 7 pm. Please wear close-toed shoes and a light jacket. Temperatures reach about 58 degrees inside. Outside, there is a picnic area, a blacksmith shed, a wishing well, and a General Store to explore. Feel free to take a nature walk, too; there are woods surrounding the area.
Tours begin at a large metal tube walkway that takes you into the caverns called The Great Craighead Cave, 800 feet long and 220 feet wide. Your guide will tell interesting facts about this cave and can answer any questions you may have. Eventually, you will ride a boat and learn about the fish that live in the underground lake. The fish were introduced to the water as an experiment back in 1967 to see if they could find their way out. They chose rainbow trout because they typically swim upstream and marked the fish so they could track them if they got out. Since these fish had no natural enemies, they continue to live and thrive down here. The cave water has a filtration system to oxygenate the water, and they are fed during the tour. Now, 400 fish are living in the lake. One area looks like the Grand Canyon and features a waterfall, which is why it was named the little Grand Canyon. This landmark is a natural beauty to behold; bring your friends and family to this place the next time you visit Tennessee.
