This art installation was inspired by one of the most infamous structures in the world.
Stonehenge II is an art installation that was created by Al Shepperd and Doug Hill, and it is located in the stunning Texas Hill Country at the grounds of the Hill Country Arts Foundation. It was built to commemorate the original Stonehenge monument that can be found in England. Stonehenge II is constructed out of steel and concrete, and it’s not meant to be a replica of the original, but rather an impression of it. The project was completed in the early 1990s after about 9 months of construction, and two Easter Island heads were built and added nearby Stonehenge II before Shepperd passed in 1994.
The stones here are about 8 feet in height and are truly a sight to see. Visitors love to come here and marvel at the interpretation of Stonehenge in the beautiful grassy field that it rests in. The visiting hours are from 8 to 8 every day. This area is the perfect place to come sightsee for a bit, snap some pictures on a lovely day, and relax and have a picnic under the shady trees.
