Sterling Hill Mining Museum has some fun activities to offer, from tours of a working underground mine, viewing the fluorescent minerals, learning at the museum about mining to rock collecting and sifting sand for minerals, gemstones, and fossils in the water trough. The Sterling Hill Mine Tour & Museum of Fluorescence is a former iron and zinc mine in Ogdensburg, New Jersey. It was the last working underground mine located in NJ when it closed in 1986. It was previously known as The Sterling Hill Mine, and it became a museum in 1989.
The mine tours last roughly 2 hours. To enter the mine and the museum, visitors must be part of a tour because there are no unguided tours. The operating schedule of the tour is from July through August from 10 am and 1 pm, September from Monday to Friday at 1 pm only, and Saturday and Sunday at 10 am and 1 pm. From October through November, the tour goes daily at 1 pm only, December through March, the tour is on weekends at 1 pm only, and April through June the tour is offered daily at 1 pm only. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your tour time as tours leave promptly at their set times. Tour prices are $13 for adults 13 years & older, $12 for seniors (65+), and $10 for children 4 - 12 years.
