Visit America's first industrial city and learn about its history.
Located in northeastern New Jersey, this historical park features Paterson Falls. This waterfall used to help power the mills, which provided power to the factories back in its heyday. Paterson City used to manufacture silk fabric, steam locomotives, and plane engines during the Industrial Revolution. The best spots to get a good look at the falls are Overlook Park or Mary Ellen Kramer Park. A 50-mile long lava flow occurred around the falls, and the geological structure of the area is made up of basalt and sandstone.
Park your car at Overlook Park and explore this historical park. Please remain on the walking paths, especially in winter. It is slippery around the falls, so be prepared with good walking or hiking shoes. Guided tours are available via online reservation, which must be done at least two weeks in advance. The current tour size capacity is up to 35 people. Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park is located in an urban area, but there may be ticks or bees. It is best to wear long pants or bug repellent when you visit this park.
