Enjoy the sights and sounds of nature and see a historic lighthouse in Florida's panhandle.
The St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge is located south of Tallahassee, Florida. It is home to various wildlife, including the native frosted flatwoods salamander and red-cockaded woodpeckers, which are threatened wildlife species. Explore 1.5 miles of interpretive trails to learn about the local wildlife and view them in their natural habitat. Fishing is also allowed at the refuge, but crabbing is only permitted in the tidal waters near St. Mark's lighthouse.
This beautiful refuge is open year-round from sunrise to sunset. Canoers and kayakers are allowed to explore the refuge pools from May 15 through October 15. Only hiking and walking are allowed on the trails. Please note that leashed pets are allowed in designated areas. This is a great place for bird enthusiasts. Common birds you may see include pied-billed grebes, snowy egrets, ospreys, black-bellied plovers, western sandpipers, northern mockingbirds, Carolina chickadees, and more.
