Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve

The Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve is a 3,500-acre wetland sanctuary that’s not only a haven for those that adore nature, but also the animals and plants that inhabit it. Located in Fort Meyers, Florida, this preserve provides a glimpse into the utter beauty and biodiversity of Southwest Florida's ecosystems. The preserve is run by a non-profit and is dedicated to not only preserving and protecting the precious environments here, but also educating as many people as possible about the importance of this land, too.

Six Mile Cypress Slough is comprised of a long, narrow wetland that has slow moving freshwater. There is a 1.2-mile boardwalk that meanders through the heart of the cypress swamp, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the gorgeous surroundings and observe wildlife like alligators, river otters, great blue herons, osprey, and turtles. The preserve also plays a vital role in maintaining water quality by filtering rainwater that travels into Estero Bay and providing a natural buffer against flooding.
