This state park is an ideal place to recharge your batteries and cool off in the rejuvenating spring.
Wekiwa Springs State Park is quite the gem and is nestled away in central Florida. This park is a favorite among locals for spending hot days floating in this naturally occurring freshwater spring. It stays a cool 72° all year, and there are masses of trees encircling the spring that create some perfect spots for sitting back and enjoying a good book. Aside from the glistening spring, there are a couple of trails in the park that are doable for the whole family and that bring you through various ecosystems, like wetlands and up into the dry regions where you might see a black bear, deer, and numerous bird species.
Just down the road from Wekiwa Springs State Park you can find Wekiwa Island. This is truly one of the most splendid places to spend a laid-back day. Wekiwa Island is right on the river and there is a boardwalk with many seating options arranged for guests to chill at and watch as the various kayakers and paddleboarders float on by. The island has a bar set up with several local beers on tap, as well as a ridiculously tasty food truck that will hit the spot after a long day in the sun. Wekiwa Springs State Park is a one-stop shop for a weekend full of Florida fun.
