This 48-acre botanical garden showcases the stunning variety of Florida plant species.
Stroll among 48 acres of lush greenery, fragrant flowers, and towering oaks at Mead Botanical Garden in Orlando. Within the bounds of this botanical paradise, guests can discover thousands of different plants and peacefully spot butterflies and so many species of birds; the gardens are even part of the Great Florida Birding Trail.
Mead Botanical Garden officially opened in 1940 and has a variety of events throughout the year, such as community gardening days, guided bird walks, horticulture lessons, and summer camps. At Mead, you’ll have the chance to walk amongst bright azaleas, shady oak trees, and have a reflective moment sitting near one of the several ponds throughout the property. As you wander through its winding trails, you'll encounter many of the habitats unique to the Sunshine State and see how they change with the seasons.
Some of the sections around the property include The Grove, which is a venue where performances are held, the Butterfly Garden, the Legacy Garden and Greenhouse, and Native Plant Demonstration Gardens. The people behind the gardens are passionate about Florida’s diverse flora and fauna and aim to preserve it, educate others about its importance, and foster a likeminded community. Mead Botanical Garden offers a delightful escape into a floral haven. Better yet, the garden is open daily and offers free entry, as well. Whether you visit for a quick morning stroll, to participate in an educational program, to watch one of the wonderful performances, or to wind down under the rustling trees with a book, Mead Botanical Garden is an oasis that offers it all.
