Explore abandoned nuclear silos located just South of Olympic National Forest.
The Washington Nuclear project, also known as WNP, set out to build five nuclear energy plants in the Pacific Northwest. Of the five that were built, only three of them were part of the original plans in 1968, and the final two silos were exact duplicates of two of the original plants. Unfortunately, due to bad budgeting, the company in charge of the project could not run them and put the power plants to good use.
These sites are now home to the Satsop Business Park and the Overstock.com call center. They have also been featured in films such as Echo at Satsop and Depth. It is surrounded by a scenic drive through dense forests. Upon seeing the silos, you can get out and explore the site, although much of it may be closed off due to safety reasons.
