This recreation area is located near Watertown in east-central South Dakota.
The Sandy Shore State Recreation Area is on the shore of Lake Kampeska, which is a 5,250-acre inland glacial lake. It has a long, sandy beach and remarkably clear water. Many early homesteaders settled along the shores of the lake. There are 17 sites on the campground for tents, RV's, and trailers, and they offer canoe and kayak rentals. The recreation area provides opportunities to go boating, fishing, swimming, biking, canoeing, kayaking, and bird watching. There are showers, flush toilets, and picnic shelters available to guests.
This is also a great place to bring a jet ski, as the cabins are right in front of the beach and each cabin has a dock right out front. The beach is huge and has a great playground, as well.
