Camp near the Big Sioux River at North Dakota's Big Sioux Recreation Area.
Big Sioux Recreation Area is close to the cities of Brandon and Sioux Falls and it is a great area for camping, hiking, disc golfers, canoeing, and biking. It is named for the Big Sioux River that flows through the park. The recreation area has an archery range and course, an 18-hole disc golf course, a paved bike trail, and a dog training area. In the winter, snowmobilers gather to enjoy the area and the enclosed warming house. Campsites have clean bathrooms and showers and there is also firewood for sale. There are hookups for trailers, water, and a dump site.
The campsites are open from May to October, but the log cabins can be booked year-round. The cabins have bunk beds, a double bed, a table, and benches with a fire pit and grate, and a picnic table. The playground is very nice and updated, and they have flush toilets and warm showers. For use in the park, fishing poles, games, and snowshoes are available. The recreation area is pet-friendly too. There are annual events held in the Big Sioux Recreation Area such as the GPS/Geocaching Race, Spooktacular Trails at Halloween time, and the Dutch Oven Gathering potluck. Check it out and take a look at the trail map guide or other maps of the area on their site.
