Hiking trails at this national preserve are open 24/7, and the visitor center and historic buildings are open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm from May to October. As you explore the hiking trails, keep an eye out for mule deer, bison, badgers, skunks, jackrabbits, gophers, and more. Bird species you may see include various ducks and geese, wild turkeys, greater prairie chickens, horned grebes, kestrels, and prairie falcons, among others.
