The Sabine National Wildlife Refuge is located in southwestern Louisiana off State Highway 27. This area is teeming with migratory birds, including over 20 duck species and over 30 different shorebird species. Be on the lookout for some of the most common birds that live here, such as blue-winged teals, great egrets, American widgeons, roseate spoonbills, sandpipers, killdeer, red-tailed hawks, marsh wrens, white-eyed vireos, and more. Guests can walk along the raised boardwalk, a flat one-mile loop, to get a good view of the wildlife.
With over 250 bird species, 132 fish species, and plenty of reptiles, amphibians, and mammals, there is always something to see at the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge no matter the time of year. This is also a great place for anglers to catch fish such as speckled trout, largemouth bass, channel catfish, flounder, redfish, and more.
