Tour this beautiful national historic landmark in South Carolina.
Middleton Place is located in southeastern South Carolina near the Ashley River. This was a working rice plantation during the 1700s and 1800s and it was owned by the Middleton family who immigrated here from Great Britain. Here, you will learn about the stories of all who lived and worked on the plantation. At Middleton Place, you will also see the oldest landscaped gardens in the U.S.
Most of Middleton Place was burned shortly before the end of the American Civil War, but restoration work began in 1925 to help preserve this little slice of history. This historic attraction is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. If you want to stay overnight, book a room at the Middleton Place Inn. They also have a restaurant open daily for lunch and dinner. Lunch is served from 11 am to 3 pm and dinner is offered from 6 pm to 9 pm Tuesday through Sunday. If you're in South Carolina, a trip to Middleton Place will definitely be worth your while.
