Explore this Native American museum located on the Salt River Reservation.
The term Huhuham Ki translates to "House of the Ancestors." This brick house is set in a beautiful southwestern landscape on the Salt River Reservation. The museum features exhibits that take visitors back in time to see the origins and growth of this Arizona community. Visitors will see various artifacts such as baskets, pottery, photos, jewelry, artwork, and many other articles unique to the culture. Although the museum is not large, it gives visitors a personal look at the cultural heritage of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa community from the ancient Hohokam to the present.
Visitors may enjoy watching a native weaving of a Pima basket, a molding of a Maricopa pot, or a demonstration of tortilla making by the community. You can also learn about the farming and irrigation developed by the Pima Indians hundreds of years ago. This irrigation system is still in existence today in the greater Phoenix region. Just outside of the museum are historic buildings such as a pit house and bush kitchen. There is also a fry bread and taco stand with some great food. Don't miss this attraction in Scottsdale, Arizona.
