One of Ohio’s best State Parks where visitors can hike to see incredible caves and waterfalls.
About an hour outside of Columbus, Ohio in the town of Logan is where the scenic Hocking Hills State Park is situated. If you are fond of hiking, caves, waterfalls, and photography you are sure to fall in love with the Hocking Hills region of Ohio. The park offers nearly 60 miles of hiking trails for visitors to enjoy. Hocking Hills State Park is open year-round, although the most popular time of year to visit is either during the fall or summertime. The park will make your jaw drop in the autumn season due to the colors of all the changing leaves. You will find the park to be much more quiet during the colder winter months if crowds are something you prefer to avoid.
The main attractions in Hocking Hills include Old Man’s Cave, Rock House, and Ash Cave. The Grandma Gatewood Trail is about 6 miles and will connect you to the Old Man’s Cave, Cedar Falls and Ash Cave portions of the park. You will have the chance to see beautiful waterfalls, creeks, and also gorges that cup deep into the Earth. Rock House is the main cave you can explore within the park. There is evidence inside of the various caves, especially Rock House, that early settlers used to inhabit them. Finally, Ash Cave is a 700-foot wide horseshoe-shaped cave that is possibly the most profound section of Hocking Hills. A small waterfall cascades over the ledge of this rock formation, and the area surrounding becomes vibrant with bright wildflowers in the spring. Hocking Hills State Park is without a doubt one of the best places to get your fill of some outdoor adventure and beauty.
