Come and see locally found fossils and artifacts from the Plains Native American tribes.
Open since 2008; this museum is a great place to learn about dinosaurs and fossils. The friendly staff is helpful and informative about everything inside the museum. A majority of the fossils on display have been found in the vicinity, and some of the best preserved dinosaur fossils and skeletons ever discovered were found in Montana. There are triceratops, stegosaurus, duck-billed dinosaurs, and many other fossils waiting to be seen. Other sections of the museum feature Native American artifacts from the local plains. Also, with the help of residents, the museum houses a non-working, fun look at the past with a Post Office and a 1950s era kitchen. Visitors are encouraged to touch many exhibits for a more interactive experience.
The Great Plains Dinosaur Museum is open seasonally from May through September. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm in May. It is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sundays from 12:30 pm to 5 pm through the summer months. You can even come here during Labor Day weekend. If you're visiting during the winter months, you can call to schedule an appointment and get the museum all to yourself. Admission is $5 for ages 13 and up, $3 for ages 6-12, and free for children ages 5 and under. RV parking is available, and there is a great gift shop on site. If you're driving U.S. Highway 2 through Montana, consider visiting the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum.
