Surrounding the Boysen Reservoir is a beautiful state park providing many outdoor activities for visitors.
The Ashley Fur Party in 1825 were the first white men to visit the Wind River Canyon. Asmus Boysen dam was built in 1908 by Asmus Boysen, for whom the park and reservoir are named. A 710-kilowatt power plant was also built on-site. Operations ceased when a major flood filled the plant with silt back in 1923. Part of the original dam can still be seen adjacent to the tunnels on the Lower Wind River Campground. The CB&O Railroad went through the canyon in 1911, and the state highway was constructed in 1925. The existing dam was completed in 1951, and Boysen became a state park in 1956.
The Boysen State Park has great camping. Please note that reservations are required. Guests who come can enjoy fishing, kayaking, boating, camping, and playing volleyball. There is a marina, boat dock, beach, and a playground in the park. If you want to stay overnight, look into their cabins, which offer restroom facilities. RVs can also use the dump station. Anglers can expect to catch various fish such as walleye, sauger, perch, crappie, ling, rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout. The reservoir reaches 117 feet at its deepest point. Have a blast at this awesome state park in Wyoming with your friends and family.
