This museum helps recount the maritime culture and history of this region through intriguing exhibits and artifacts.
The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, located in Hatteras, North Carolina, is an establishment dedicated to educating the public about the maritime history of this region of the US and the many shipwrecks that have occurred on this coast. The museum hosts events and programs for the whole family such as scavenger hunts throughout the year and they bring in new and seasonal exhibits whenever possible. There is truly a wealth of knowledge waiting to be discovered within this fascinating museum.
Due to the currents that form off the coast of the Outer Banks, a shocking number of shipwrecks have happened in the waters close to where this museum is located. The museum helps to honor and preserve the history and maritime culture that has been embedded in this region for many, many years now. The museum is open from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 10 and 4, and it is closed on Sundays. Admission is free to all guests, but donations are welcome and greatly appreciated. A trip to the Outer Banks would not be complete without learning about the remarkable maritime history that exists here, and there’s no better place to do so than a museum that has been dedicated to providing the knowledge for two decades now.
