The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is one of the most remote places you can go in the continental US. Wonderful hiking and photography opportunities exist here.
The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is overseen by the Bureau of Land Management, and it encompasses a staggering 1.87 million acres in the southern region of Utah. Areas of the monument date back as far as 275 million years ago. Along the Kaiparowits Plateau to the Escalante River Canyons, there are incredible rock formations that resemble staircases and terraces. The land here is so remote and rugged that it happened to be one of the last regions of the continental United States that was mapped.
Within the boundaries of the monument, there are five different ecosystems that range from dry deserts to coniferous forests. Some favorite activities here include hiking, camping, and horseback riding. This is one of the best places in the country to fully experience the sheer solitude and beauty the great outdoors provides. No matter the time of year, be sure to come to Grand Staircase
