Learn about the history of the Erie Canal.
The Erie Canal Museum is located in downtown Syracuse, New York. This museum is located inside a historic building, the Weighlock building, which was constructed in the mid-1800s. It is open daily from 10 am to 4 pm and has rotating and permanent exhibits featuring the Erie Canal and the local community of Syracuse. Admission is free, but they always welcome donations from visitors.
Check out the wall murals, replica canal town, and artifacts on display at the Erie Canal Museum. Along with the indoor space full of exhibits, there is an outdoor Victorian-style garden area you can walk around. Children can spend time at the children's area of the museum to play with toys and read books about the Erie Canal.
