This nature trail follows along Skaneateles Creek and is situated where a historic railroad used to operate.
The Charlie C. Major Nature Trail is a 1.5-mile out-and-back path located in Skaneateles, New York. This is a historic trail that traverses where the Skaneateles Short Line Railroad used to be – it operated under a few different names between the years 1840 and 1981. The rails are gone now, and the tranquil Charlie C. Major Nature Trail follows along with a portion of the babbling Skaneateles Creek. This is a lovely spot to come explore when the weather is nice and you want to take a scenic stroll.
If you come prepared with food, there are a few areas that make for perfect picnic spots right along the creek. If you bring the kids with you, there’s also a great playground for them at the Mottville Trailhead. You’ll be able to see some remnants left behind from the railroad for yourself along the trail and ruins that have stood the test of time. Bikers are welcome on the trail as well as dogs, as long as they remain on a leash! This is the perfect spot for a leisurely and shaded walk if you’re in the Upstate New York region.
