Enjoy a day at the zoo in southern Missouri.
Dickerson Park Zoo is located in Springfield, Missouri, off of Interstate 44. It features over 500 animals from around the world, including golden lion tamarins, red kangaroos, Malaysian tigers, elephants, lions, giraffes, and more. The parking lot immediately in front of the zoo entrance is free; however, you may need to park at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds on busy days, which may require a small fee. Besides the regular animal exhibits, a fun area to visit is the outback corral petting zoo, where you can buy tokens to feed some animals. The Titus Express is another fun attraction, especially for small children. Tickets for this train ride are $2 each, except for children ages two and younger, who can ride for free.
The zoo is open from 9 am to 5 pm March through October and from 9 am to 4 pm in the winter. It is closed on days when the walkways are icy and on Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Please note that large coolers and outside food and drink (except water) are not allowed inside the zoo. You can leave the zoo for lunch and be readmitted to the zoo on the same day by showing your receipt at the gate. If you enjoy zoos, be sure to stop by the Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield, Missouri.
