Visit one of the most popular waterfalls in Alabama.
DeSoto State Park is located in northeastern Alabama and offers a variety of outdoor recreation. The day-use area is perfect for picnics and features a playground, seasonal swimming pool, nature center, and 30 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. If you choose to have an extended stay, reserve a cabin, campground, or RV site at the park. They have almost 100 full hook-up RV sites available. The natural beauty of this part of the state is unparalleled, and Alabama is one of the most biologically diverse states in the U.S. While you're here, explore the trails and do some bird watching along the way. You may see blackbirds, chickadees, ospreys, woodpeckers, and more.
Fall is the busiest season to visit, but it is also the prettiest time of year. The peak time for fall foliage is usually from the last part of October through early November. If you plan on coming during this time, it is strongly encouraged to make camping reservations ahead of time. Don't miss out on DeSoto Falls, and it is an easy hike from the parking lot off of Lookout Mountain Parkway. This waterfall is 107 feet tall and has the most flow during the winter and early spring. The park's nature center is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm in the spring, summer, and fall; however, it is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the winter. You will find the nature center next to the state park information center and country store. Explore Alabama's DeSoto State Park with your family and friends.
