Blue Springs State Park

This state park is known for its spring-fed swimming hole, which stays at a refreshing 68 degrees year-round!

Cool off during those sweltering southern summers at Blue Springs State Park, located in southeast Alabama in Barbour County, also known as the Wiregrass region due to its native long-stemmed grass. With a constant temperature of 68 degrees, this natural pool has 3,600 gallons of freshwater pumped into it every single minute which then flows into the Choctawhatchee River. It officially became a state park in 1963, but there were efforts since 1890 to turn Blue Springs into a health spa complete with a hotel. While the main attraction of the park is indeed the spring, the park is 103 acres and offers a variety of activities if you want a break from swimming.

There are 47 campsites on the property that are all equipped with picnic tables, grills, and an area for campfires. Visitors can also join in on games of volleyball, fish for catfish, bass, and bream in the pond, hike the 2-mile Magnolia Trail, and little ones can have a blast on the playground. Blue Springs State Park offers reprieve from blazing hot days as well as plenty of other fun pastimes for the whole family. The park, including the spring, is open year-round, so feel free to dive on in no matter the season!
