View the unique castle-like structure known as Clark Tower, built in the early 20th-century.
Clark Tower is made of limestone and is a castle-like structure built in 1926, in memory of Caleb Clark. Caleb Clark was a stonemason and he and his wife Ruth Clanton Clark were among the first settlers of Madison County, Iowa. The tower is a three-story, 25-foot tall tower with stone steps encircling the outside. Visitors can access the top story via the steep metal stairs. Be advised that there are no barriers up there, so keep your kids close to you as a safety precaution. The tower overlooks the Middle River Valley within the Winterset City Park.
The trail to the tower is well marked for pedestrians, but you can also drive up to the tower if you prefer. Simply follow the mile-long gravel road to get there. Visitors enjoy soaking in the beautiful views and kids love to dress up and play in the tower. This is a great spot to take photos, so don't hesitate to stop by Clark Tower in the Winterset City Park.
