Watch a horse race here during the next Kentucky Derby.
Churchill Downs has been the iconic place that has hosted the famous thoroughbred horse racing competitions in Kentucky since 1789. The first track was built in Lexington, Kentucky, and almost 100 years later, a new track was built in Louisville, where the horse races take place today.
Churchill Downs is considered the Home of the Kentucky Derby. It has the longest tradition of a continually running sport in the United States. The track is built on 80 acres of land and encompasses the stables and the stands for the audience to sit and enjoy the races.
More often than not, people come to Churchill Downs dressed in their finest clothing and sunhats to watch the races. Here you will find a bar and a large waiting area to place bets on the horse you are expecting to win. If you visit during the off-season, you can tour the track. However, the most thrilling atmosphere can be felt at Churchill Downs during a race.
