Visit a historical Catholic church in St. Paul.
Cathedral of St. Paul is just off of Interstate 94 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. This stunning religious building features Beaux-Arts architecture. The cornerstone of this cathedral was set on June 2, 1907, and it has been on the national register of historic buildings since 1974. Its exterior walls are made out of Saint Cloud granite and the interior walls are comprised of Italian Botticino marble. The Cathedral of St. Paul can fit up to 3,000 people inside its pews and every part of the cathedral has intricate detail. There are several handmade stained glass windows that were created by Charles Connick. Many of these windows depict biblical events from the time of Christ.
Visitors will notice that there is a unique floorplan inside the cathedral. It is set up in the shape of a Greek cross that intersects under the central dome structure. There are also four large pillars with statues depicting Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, the authors of the gospels in the New Testament. Public tours are offered at 1 pm Tuesday through Friday.
