Caprock Canyons State Park is located east of I-27 in North Texas. This state park features 90 miles of multi-use trails that are great for hikers and mountain bikers. The trails range in difficulty, making it an ideal place for anyone to hike, regardless of experience level. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife such as bison, mule deer, bobcats, coyotes, and the occasional pronghorn antelope as you explore the area. Bring your camera to capture the canyon's beauty, featuring colorful geologic formations with red, orange, and white rock layers. If you visit during the spring, expect to see wildflowers and flowering cacti throughout the park.
Along with hiking and mountain biking, visitors love spending time on Lake Theo. Kayaking, swimming, and fishing are allowed on the lake. If you want to spend multiple days exploring Caprock Canyons, feel free to book a campsite. They have primitive tent campgrounds, equestrian camps, and other drive-up sites with electricity hookups available. Entrance fees are $5 per adult and free for children ages 12 and under. This state park is open daily, but there is a gate, so be sure to arrive after 8 am to find a parking spot and leave the park before 10 pm if you're not staying overnight.
