Visit this impressive art museum located in Brunswick, Maine.
On the Bowdoin College campus in Brunswick, Maine, the Bowdoin College Museum of Art is a gem. During its history, the museum had been housed at many different locations but found its permanent home in the Walker Art building in 1894, which was planned by the architectural firm McKim, Mead, and White.
An extensive renovation project was completed in the fall of 2007. The architects for this development were Machado & Silvetti Associates LLC - Boston, MA. The building itself features an underground wing that you do not want to miss. Because it is a State Landmark, the façade needed to stay the same, and any additions needed to complement the building but not upstage it. The inside was updated extensively, and an addition was added to the back during the renovation project.
This building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The entrance fee is donation-based, and the art exhibits rotate through frequently, ensuring guests can come back and see something new every time they visit. Take a look at this stunning art museum the next time you're in the pine tree state.
