Visit one of the top waterfalls in northern Oregon.
White River Falls State Park is located off US Highway 197, near The Dalles. It is just over an hour's drive from Mt. Hood, Oregon. Outdoor recreational activities you can do at this park include hiking, wildlife observation, picnicking, and fishing. This is a day-use area, and the parking lot gates open daily at sunrise and close promptly at 7 pm. The parking lot is not very big, so only vehicles under 24 feet long are permitted to park here.
The park's crown jewel is the White River Falls, which cascades from an impressive 90 feet high. Hikers can take the steep, 0.7-mile trail to view the falls and see the old hydroelectric plant. This plant supplied power to two Oregon counties from 1910 to 1960. Swimming and kayaking are not allowed at the White River Falls. If you're visiting Oregon, you won't regret taking a hike to White River Falls.
