Explore an art museum located at a mansion estate.
Maryhill Museum of Art was originally going to become a mansion for Samuel Hill’s family. The museum is actually named after his wife. You will discover the rich history, artifacts, and beautiful works of art from all genres when you visit. During WWI, Samuel was forced to stop building his home. Later, in the mid-1920s, this building was dedicated as a museum and was released to the public in the 1940s on Samuel Hill's birthday, in May.
In 2012, a plaza overlooking the Columbia River became the first expansion that the museum would see. Aside from the scenic location and the beautiful architecture, this museum is filled with art and unique artifacts. Some pieces include the famous The Burghers of Calais and The Thinker sculptures from the renowned artist Aguste Rodin. You will also be able to see replica pieces of the stage set from Theatre de la Mode, a collection of over three hundred chess sets from across the world, an exhibit dedicated to Samuel's life and achievements, and an outdoor sculpture park including a full-scale replica of Stonehenge. Admission rates range from $5 to $12. It is open every day except Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This is an incredible place that virtually anyone can enjoy. The exhibits often rotate so you can see different things every time you stop by for a visit.
