See the Rio Grande River Gorge on this scenic hiking trail.
The West Rim Trailhead is located off US Highway 64 in northern New Mexico. This out-and-back trail is six miles long, has an elevation gain of over 1,000 feet, and takes an average of three hours to hike (round trip). One of the main features of this hiking trail is the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. Several other shorter hikes connect to this trail, so feel free to explore as much as you want.
Leashed dogs are allowed on the trail, and you may also see mountain bikers passing through. It is unlikely you will see many people on this trail, though. Make sure you arrive early in the morning because the area gets hot quickly. Be prepared with a hydration pack and snacks, and leave no trace on the trail. If you love hiking and want to see the natural beauty of New Mexico, head to this trailhead just west of Taos, New Mexico.
