You may feel like you’ve gone back in time when you visit this quaint town. Believe it or not, this museum used to be a hardware store back in its heyday and this historic building dates back to the 1800s. It is located in the heart of the St. Francisville historic district. To date, this historical museum has been preserved since the 1970s and is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm for visitors. They have 4 different exhibits that portray the Louisiana heritage of the district of St. Francisville and provide a history behind the plantation culture in this region. These exhibits include Bayou Sara, St. Francisville & West Feliciana, John S. Dawson, A Legacy of Education in West Feliciana, West Florida Rebellion, and Saving the Intangible Culture - History of Benevolent Societies. Don’t forget to check out their adorable gift shop before you go to keep a souvenir as a token of your visit.
Besides New Orleans, the city of St. Francisville has become a top tourist location in Louisiana. The West Feliciana Historical Society Museum is located just off of the US-61 highway.
