Visit one of the largest springs in the world.
Mammoth Spring State Park is a national natural landmark located in northern Arkansas, bordering the Missouri state line. The Mammoth Spring has 9 million gallons of water flowing every hour, and you can see remnants of an old hydroelectric plant here. Many people begin their day at the visitor center, which is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm. If you want to bring a picnic lunch, feel free to use the picnic area just south of the parking lot. Another picnic area is located on the east side of Spring Lake near the playground and restrooms.
There is also an 1886 train depot and museum within the park, making it a unique state park full of history. This museum offers guided tours at various hours from Wednesday through Sunday. Many people enjoy walking along the interpretive trail which crosses the island and leads down to the dam and mill site. Mammoth Spring State Park opens its gates daily at 8 am and closes at dusk. If you're passing through northern Arkansas, be sure to stop by this historic state park.
