The St. Augustine Amphitheatre, also known as The Amp, is an outdoor music venue in beautiful natural surroundings on the edge of Anastasia Island and just a short distance outside of downtown St. Augustine. Although The Amp didn’t open until 1965, it is still steeped in the extraordinary history that’s engrained in practically every place you go in St. Augustine. The land that the amphitheatre resides on an area of land that was once a coquina quarry that was integral for building important structures such as the Castillo de San Marcos.
The Amp is an important piece of the St. Augustine community and was initially built specifically for a symphonic outdoor drama by the world-renowned playwright Paul Green. Today, The Amp holds a wide variety of musical acts throughout the year that are amplified by the gorgeous and peaceful surroundings of the land. Artists such as Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, Aretha Franklin, and Willie Nelson have all performed at this venue! If you’re planning a trip to St. Augustine, have some flexibility, and want something unique to do, be sure to check out the list of events that the venue has going on so you can book a show that you will surely never forget! If seeing a show doesn’t work out, The Amp also holds a Farmers Market every Saturday from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm.
