Take a guided tour of South Carolina's State House.
The South Carolina State House is located in the heart of downtown Columbia, South Carolina. This is the site of South Carolina's second statehouse, and construction began in December 1851. The original structure was severely damaged in 1865, but today's statehouse features vaulted hallways, restored marble flooring, and an iconic dome tying the whole building together.
All guided tours begin with a 15-minute video that goes over the architecture and history of the statehouse. Tours start every half hour beginning at 9:30 am and ending at 3:30 pm. The legislature is in session annually from January to May, but they still offer tours year-round regardless if they are in or out of session. Just be aware that there are no 12:30 pm tours any time of year. Walk-ins are welcome, so don't hesitate to visit the statehouse the next time you pass through Columbia, South Carolina.
