Enjoy fishing, hiking, and picnicking at this state park.
Barnwell State Park has over 300 acres of land to explore and features several lakes stocked with fish such as bass, bluegill, catfish, and crappie. Please note that you must have a valid South Carolina fishing license to fish at the park. Motorized boats are not allowed on the lakes, but personal kayaks or canoes are permitted. This is a great spot to visit during the day; however, you also have the option to sleep overnight in one of their cabins or at a campsite. There are 5 cabins and 25 campsites to choose from, which can be reserved in advance.
The best place for bird watching is the pier closest to shelter one. From there, you can often see ducks and osprey. Other outdoor activities available within the park include a playground, picnic shelters, a volleyball area, geocaching, and hiking. This lovely state park is located in western South Carolina and is open daily from 9 am to sunset. Guests are welcome to visit year-round, and no admission fee is required. They do allow leashed pets, provided they behave themselves and don't disturb the wildlife.
