Step back in time to the American Civil War era and learn about this historic southern plantation.
The Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site is located in northwestern South Carolina. It features the mansion of South Carolina's "secession governor," William Henry Gist. This plantation grew and harvested cotton for over 100 years and covered 2,000 acres during its heyday. Today, the historic site encompasses just 44 acres of land and has five historic buildings left standing.
To tour the Gist mansion, admission costs $10 for adults and $5 for children. Anyone ages 0 to 5 can take the guided tour for free. Tour times are offered daily from March to October at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. During the off-season, guided tours are available Thursday through Monday at the same time slots. Visitors can also explore the Nature Loop Trail or Tyger River Loop Trail outside. Both trails are fairly easy and only half a mile long. Leashed dogs are allowed in most outdoor areas of this historic site. Anyone interested in history will enjoy their time at the Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site in South Carolina.
