A couple of other exciting parts of the national forests include the educational center and the 4,000-year-old shell ring that visitors can check out via the 1-mile trail and newly opened boardwalk. The prehistoric shell mound is an incredible sight and numerous interpretive signs are scattered along the trail so explorers can gain more insight on the history of it and how much it has overcome in terms of environmental factors. The Francis Marion and Sumter National Forests are extraordinary natural areas and offer activities for every type of person who wants to get outside and appreciate these wonderful environments.
