See the largest natural history collection in the world.
The Smithsonian Natural History Museum is located in Washington, D.C. This free attraction has exhibits about the ocean, fossils, ancient Egypt, sharks, geology, and more. A really neat area is the butterfly pavilion (it has a small entrance fee). Inside the butterfly pavilion, guests can see the butterflies up close as they fly around freely inside the tropical, climate-controlled exhibit. There are butterflies from around the world, including South America, India, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Another point of interest inside the museum is the insect zoo. Be sure to go to the nursery room to see different insect larvae.
Admission to the Smithsonian Natural History Museum is free and it is open from 10 am to 5:30 pm daily and is closed on Christmas day. If you're into natural history, you won't regret visiting the Smithsonian Natural History Museum on your next vacation in Washington, D.C.
