The iconic Lincoln Memorial is right across from the Washington Monument in the National Mall area of Washington, D.C. This century-old temple-like memorial features a giant statue depicting Abraham Lincoln, which looks truly majestic and larger than life. The memorial also has inscriptions on the north and south side of the monument with quotes from his Gettysburg Address and Second Inaugural speech. Abraham Lincoln was President during the American Civil War. He played a pivotal role in reuniting the union, ensuring peace would prevail despite differences of opinion in the North and South.
The Lincoln Memorial is one of the most iconic buildings in Washington, D.C. Visitors can take as much or as little time exploring the memorial. Before you leave, take a picture outside the Lincoln Memorial and stroll around the reflecting pool in front of the building.
